Headteacher Elizabeth Spencer allowed tours of classrooms taken by current pupils and there were old photographs, oral recordings and tolling of the old school bell. Article on Badsey and English Civil War and battle in 1646. Colonel Edward Massey led parliamentary troops from North, crossing Twyford Bridge at Offenham and forming up on Green Hill. A second contingent stormed Evesham Bridge from Bengeworth. Villagers were forced to supply men and materials to help the Royalists. Then loyalties were based on many things but Worcestershire was known as being loyal to King Charles 1. In 17th century the families of Pigeon, Badsey, Smyth, George and Grove were some of the main inhabitants but Knight and Hartwell families were not living in village then. There is still in existence a Protestation Return from 1642, the closest there is to a census of adult males who had to take oath of allegiance to Protestant religion/Parliament. Over 80 names listed for Badsey and Aldington so parish would have had 200/300 inhabitants. Malcolm Atkin has written a book about the Civil War in Worcestshire and his future talk would help us understand how the mid 17th century residents were affected. Names of Committee members: Terry Sparrow (Chairman/Treasurer), Maureen Spinks (Secretary), Will Dallimore (Membership Secretary), Ian Gibson, Tony Jerram, Richard Phillips, Neil Thould, Carolyn Worth.
