Quarterly Badsey Society newsletter sent to members. Events: Evesham Asparagus Festival; Whit Walk around Badsey including looking at interior workings of Drinking Fountain and slide show. Plus tools day when donated tools were photographed and recorded and launch of “Digging for a Living: Market Gardening in Badsey and Aldington”. At book launch speaker was Professor Nick Evans, Professor of Rural Geography at The University of Worcester who talked about past and future and referred to Chatham House Report, “Food Futures, Rethinking UK Strategy” and viability of market gardening. Future events: Badsey Flower Show; visit to Hornsfield Nurseries; talk on turnpikes by Robin Neill and talk by Margaret Fisher on Charles Randell, market gardening pioneer. Reported deaths of Pete Smith, a Parish Council member and Trustee of Aldington & Badsey Relief in Need Charity, and Irene Grose-Hodge. We took Peggy and Roger Selby, descendants of Jerry and John (wife Agnes Elizabeth) Sharp, millers at Aldington on a tour of Aldington Mill. Refer to website article on Agnes (known as Elizabeth).
