WRIGHT (later MOORE), Gertrude Emma – emigrated 1883

Gertrude Emma Wright (1873-1914) was born at Badsey in March 1873, the second of five children of Adolphus Careless Wright, a farm bailiff, and his wife, Emma (née Smith).  She was baptised in St James’ Church, Badsey, on 11th April 1873.  At the time of the 1881 census, they were living in a house in High Street, Badsey, which is now occupied by The Spar.

At the age of ten, Gertrude emigrated with her family from Badsey in 1883 in order to seek a new life in America.  Their destination was Geauga County, Ohio, where several Badsey families had emigrated to in the 1870s.

Gertrude married Robert A Moore, a barber, in Cuyahoga, Ohio, on 3rd August 1894.  They had two sons:  Agustus Ruford (1895) and Francis W (1899-1899).  At the time of the 1900 census, Gertrude and family lived in Solon Township, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.  By 1910, they had moved to Hemet Township, Riverside County, California, where Robert was by now a jeweller.

Gertrude died in January 1914 in California, aged 40.  She was buried at Maple Shade Cemetery, Auburn.
