1944 wedding – Leslie Fletcher & Violet Hopkins

On 15th July 1944 at the Church of St John the Baptist, Wickhamford, Violet Winifred Hopkins (1920-2006), of the Women's Land Army, married Leslie Roy Fletcher (1919-2001), an R.A.F. 'Processing Engraver (O.A.S.)'.

Four-year-old Sue Burlingham was chosen as a bridesmaid at the wedding; Sue lived at 'Leasowe', Manor Road. Her father, Richard Geoffrey Burlingham, was away serving with the Worcestershire Regiment at the time.  Sue was born in 'Leasowe' and was living with her mother, Marjorie, and grandmother, Nora Armstrong.  (The older bridesmaid on the left was a friend of the bride and the one on the right was probably a Land Army girl called Marie Rose).

Thanks are due to Sue Burlingham for the photograph and information.
