Barbara Dolphin, cinema usherette

Barbara Doreen Dolphin, of Wickhamford, is pictured here in 1934, working as an usherette at the Regal Cinema, Port Street, Evesham.  She was born in 1918, the daughter of James ("Billy") Dolphin and his wife, Eva.  The family lived at the present day 'Fennick' on Pitchers Hill and Billy was a market gardener who sold some of his produce at a road-side stall. Barbara attended school in Badsey from 1923 until 1932.  She was still working at the Regal in 1939 and married Leslie John Roberts, of Bengeworth, in 1941. He worked as a projectionist at the Regal.   Barbara died in 2002.

The photograph was published by the Regal Cinema in 2019, to celebrate 87 years since its first opening, in 1932.
