Birmingham and London Advertisers

Badsey market gardeners regularly sent produce to Birmingham and London, hence the reason for advertisements from there.

  • Barnett Emanuel of Covent Garden Market, London, stated in his advertisement that he was the largest individual receiver of asparagus from Worcestershire and strawberries from South Hampshire.  He distributed to all the best high-class stores and shops in London and suburbs.  The advert concluded by saying:  “The very fact of my being the Largest Individual Receiver of your Asparagus in the United Kingdom is in itself the greatest advertisement a Salesman can have, showing, as it does, that each year I get more and more consignments from regular Satisfied Growers.  Each Grower’s produce is sold on its own merits, therefore, the more carefully pack your ‘Grass’, the better price it fetches.  Empties and Labels are supplied at the shortest notice, and no consignment is too small and none too large.”  The local agent was E H Collett of Grosvenor House, Badsey.
  • F E Morris of Smithfield Market, Birmingham, took out a double-page spread in the centre of the programme, advising market gardeners that they would be assured best prices for their asparagus and strawberries.
