The programme began with an announcement by the BBC Home Service, outlining the content of the programme. The first speaker was given as John Hale, but this is believed to be a typo for John Hall.
- John Hall (1892-1958), described in the 1940 newspaper report as John Hall Junior of Bretforton, lived all his life in Bretforton. He was described in the 1939 register as a Market Gardener (own account). He gave an account of “gras cutting” (cutting asparagus). See also pages 2, 8-9, 11, 13, 16, 20, 23-24, 25.
