DEATH OF MR JOHN KEEN

The death of Mr John Keen (80), one of Badsey’s oldest inhabitants, occurred suddenly on Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs H Green, Church View, Badsey.  Mr Keen was a well-known figure in the village and his cheery nature will be sadly missed.

He was born at Bengeowrth but moved to Badsey early in life.  He was a noted athlete in his youth, winning many prizes at local sports meetings.

He married Miss Eliza Clevely at St James’ Parish Church, and in 1930 they celebrated their golden wedding.  His wife died over a year ago.  He leaves three sons and five daughters.

The funeral took place on Tuesday, the Vicar (Rev W C Allsebrook) officiating.  The mourners were:  Mrs H Northwood (daughter, Mr & Mrs H Green (son-in-law and daughter), Mrs F Eden, Mrs W Bromley, Mrs H Rowe (daughters), Mr & Mrs J Keen, Mr & Mrs A C Keen, Mr & Mrs T Keen (sons and daughters-in-law), Mrs W Keen (daughter-in-law), Mrs E Cleveley (sister-in-law), Mrs F Holley (granddaughter), Mr & Mrs P Hall, Mr W Hall, Mrs G Collett, Mrs J Bailey (nephews and nieces), Mrs W D Sparrow, Mr A Ankers, Miss E Sladden, Mr W Mustoe, Miss Thomas.

The bearers were Messrs H Keen, W Keen (nephews), Mr G H Knight and Mr J Hartwell.
