St James' Church, Badsey, was the scene of a picturesque wedding on Saturday when Miss Nancy Jean Merriman, third daughter of Mr & Mrs W Merriman, 4 Synehurst, Badsey, was married to Mr Denis Raymond Grinnell, second son of Mr & Mrs H Grinnell, 2 Synehurst, Badsey.

Both bride and bridegroom are well known in the village. The bridegroom is a market gardener employed by Mr E Jelfs, Badsey, who presented him with a cheque as a wedding present, and the bride is a popular member of the staff of Messrs C J Long, Blackminster, who, to mark the occasion, presented her with a case of cutlery.

The Rev W B Chapman. Vicar of Badsey, conducted the service and the bride, who was given away by her father, Mr W Merriman, was charmingly attired in a gown of figured heavy crepe morocain, with veil held in place by orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of red carnations with trailing fern.

The bride was attended by three bridesmaids, Miss Ivy Grinneil, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Margaret Merriman, bride's sister, who wore dresses of blue figured heavy crepe morocain while Mrs D Hartwell (sister to bride) as matron of honour was attired In a dress of heavy pink crepe. Their bouquets consisted of bronze chrysanthemums.

Mr D Grinnell (brother of bridegroom) was best man. Mrs G Marshall presided at the organ and the hymns "0 Perfect Love” and "Lead us Heavenly Father, Lead Us” were sung. As the happy couple left the church they were presented with several lucky silver horseshoes.

A reception followed at the Old Schools, Badsey, where over 80 guests were entertained. Both bride and bridegroom received numerous presents and during the afternoon and evening wedding peals were rung on the bells of St. James' Church by the local band of ringers in honour of the occasion. Mr & Mrs D R Grinnell will make their future home at The Old Cottage, Main Street, Badsev.
