Friday 3 April 1959 – Wedding of Susan Mary Barnard and Stanley Goldstraw at Badsey

Miss S M Barnard & Mr S Goldstraw 

At St James' Church, Badsey, the wedding took place on Tuesday of Miss Susan Mary Barnard, only daughter of Mr & Mrs John Barnard of Packs House, Bretforton Road, Badsey, and Mr Stanley Goldstraw, third son of Mrs and the late Mr A Goldstraw of Gloucester Edge, Honeybourne.

The Rev Peter Braby, Vicar of Badsey with Wickhamford, officiated.  Mrs G W Marshall was at the organ for the hymns “Lead us, Heavenly Father, lead us” and “Praise my soul, the King of Heaven”.

The bride, given away by her father, wore a ballerina-length gown of heavy cream silk and a shoulder-length veil with a coronet of orange blossom.

Mr Albert Goldstraw of Hollywood, Birmingham, was best man.

A reception was held at the Northwick Hotel, Evesham, for 50 guests.

The honeymoon is being spent touring Scotland.  Their home will be at Sands Lane, Badsey.

The bride, a native of Badsey, was educated at the Greenhill School, Evesham, from where she became a student at the Phyllis Christie Secretarial College, Cheltenham.  She is a member of the ladies’ hockey section of Evesham Sports Club, f Evesham and District Young Growers’ Club, and for many years has been a Sunday School teacher at Badsey.  She is employed on the staff of Messrs William F Bailey (Worcester) Ltd, at the Evesham branch in High Street.

The bridegroom was educated at Kilburn Grammar School, London, and saw service with the Royal Air Force during the war.  He is a member of Badsey Cricket Club and is in business at Badsey with his brothers as fruit and vegetable merchants.

The couple received many useful presents, including a canteen of cutlery from the bride’s employers.
