Saturday 25 February 1939 – Death of Mary Ann Knight

The death occurred on Sunday after a long illness of Mrs Mary Ann Knight, wife of Mrs Charles Knight of Sands Lane, Badsey.  Mrs Knight was the eldest daughter of the late Mr & Mrs William Collett of Belle Vue, Badsey.  She was born in the village where, except for a period of four years at Worcester, she lived in the village all her life.  Mr & Mrs Knight had been married for 56 years.  Mrs Knight was 74 years of age.  She is survived by her husband, three sons and four daughters, with whom deep sympathy is expressed.  

The funeral was at Badsey on Thursday afternoon, the interment taking place in St James’ Churchyard, following a service in St James’ Church.  The service, which was conducted by the Vicar, Canon W C Allsebrook, RD, was choral, psalm 90, and the hymns, “On the resurrection morning” and “Abide with me” being sung.  

The mourners were Mr C Knight Senior (husband), Mr & Mrs William Knight (son and daughter-in-law), Mr C Knight Junior and Mr R Knight (sons), Mr & Mrs G C Cole, Mr & Mrs C Haines, Mr & Mrs J Andrews, Worcester, and Mr & Mrs J Ford (sons-in-law and daughters), Mr & Mrs W T Collett (brother and sister-in-law), Mr G Collett (brother), Mr & Mrs W D Sparrow (brother-in-law and sister), Mrs W H Jelfs, Chelmsford (sister), Mrs C Collett (sister-in-law), Miss L Knight, Miss E Ford and Miss D Ford (granddaughters), Mr R Knight and Mr T Ford (grandsons) and Miss B Collett (niece).  The bearers were Messrs W C Knight, G E Knight, A Knight, W Capener, R Knight and R Andrews (all grandsons).  Following the interment numerous beautiful floral tributes from relatives and friends were placed on the grave.
