PROGRESS OF HOUSING SCHEMES

At the meeting of the Rural District Council there were present:  Mr J Smithin (Chairman), Mr J H Bomford (Vice-Chairman), Rev J Davenport, Messrs J Ashwin, A D Sims, H A White, H B Phillips, F Banner, A H Butler, H Taylor, R Aldington, T Bubb and C A Binyon.

The Housing Committee reported that, arising out of a matter mentioned at the last meeting of the Council, Badsey Parish Council had forwarded a resolution asking that the Old School and part of the orchard adjoining the housing site, should be included in the area the County Council was to be requested to transfer from the parish of Aldington to the parish of Badsey.  It was further reported that Mr H K Wadams had been appointed to collect the water rents and rates for the parishes of Aldington, Badsey and Wickhamford, in succession to Mr Warmington, retired…..

….. Mr Binyon said that the progress the housing schemes were making was demonstrated by the fact that certificates to the amount of £5000 in favour of the various contractors had been presented that day.  There were eight villages now in which progress was actually visible.  The great difficult in regard to the housing schemes was the trouble in obtaining cement.  Upon that matter they could hardly express themselves too strongly.  There was cement about, and while on the one hand they were being told to build the cottages as quickly as possible, it seemed that the materials most necessary were being held up.  Cement and roofing tiles were now causing delay.
