BADSEY WEDDING – Miss G E Cave and Mr K E Dodd

Badsey Parish Church was full on Monday when Miss Gladys Evelyn Cave, younger daughter of Mr & Mrs H J Cave of Sandford Villa, Badsey, was married to Mr Kenneth Edward Dodd, third son of the late Mr & Mrs E P Dodd of Abergavenny.  Both bride and bridegroom are well known and extremely popular.  The bridegroom is employed as manager of the boot department of the Evesham brance of the Worcestre Co-operative Society, and since taking up residence at Evesham has taken a great interest in local sport, being on the committee of the Evesham Early Closers and a member of the Avon Tennis Club, of which the bride is also a member.  The bride has been in the employ of Messrs Woolworth Ltd for a number of years.

The bride, given away by her father, was tastefully attired in a white satin gown cut on Grecian lines and trimmed with pearls.  She wore a veil held in place with a wreath of orange blossom and carried a shower bouquet of pink roses.

She was attended by Miss K Cave (sister) and Miss H Reeves (cousin) and two small bridesmaids, Marjorie Dodd (niece of the groom) and Joan Jelfs (cousin of the bride).  The elder bridesmaids were attired in pastel-pink crinoline gowns with matching floral caps and shoes to tone.

The small bridesmaids wore pastel-blue organdie dresses over blue satin slips with matching poke bonnets.  They all carried pink and blue cornflower posies and wore gold bracelets, the gift of the bridegroom.  The duties of best man were carried out by Mr R Duncan, friend of the bridegroom.  The bride’s mother was attired in a two-piece ensemble of grey marocain with black accessories.

At the service, which was choral, the hymns, “The Voce that breathed o’er Eden” and “How welcome was the call” were sung and, on leaving the church, appropriate music was played by Mr Sharp, organist.

The ceremony was performed by the Vicar, Canon W C Allsebrook, assisted by the Rev G C Binyon, Rector of Hinton on the Green.  The reception was held at Badsey Council Schools, Badsey, 100 relatives and friends attending.  Late Mr & Mrs Dodd left for their honeymoon at Bristol and Brixham, the bride travelling in navy and foxglove two-piece wool marocain with navy accessories.  They received about 100 presents, including an electric fire from the staff of Messrs Woolworth, a case of cutlery from the staff of Evesham branch WCS, a clock from Worcester WCS, an electric clock from Earl Coventry Lodge RAOB, a silver tea service from the Early Closers FC and an occasional table from the Avon Tennis Club.
