Fruit-Growers on the Air

On Saturday afternoon, April 13, Robin Whitworth is producing a feature programme which he has arranged in collaboration with Charles Gardiner, Clerk to the Evesham Rural District Council and author of a number of radio plays in the Worcestershire dialect.  It will be broadcast in the Home Service programme at 3 o’clock and recorded for overseas broadcast at a later date.

The general idea is that fruit-growers in the Vale will tell of their life and work now, in blossom-time, and throughout the year.  There was a previous broadcast of a Vale of Evesham feature programme in 1937, and this is a revised version.  Among those taking part – about 20 in all – will be C A Binyon of Badsey (who has acted as technical adviser), John Hall Junior of Bretforton, Frank Clarke of Hampton, Ralph Smith of South Littleton, Jack Hodges of Evesham and W J Newman of Hinton-on-the-Green.
