Details of Will

This is the last Will and Testament of me Elizabeth Appelbee of Badsey in the county of Worcester, widow, hereby revoking all former wills and other testamentary dispositions by me heretofore made, I give:

  • £10 to be expended in blankets to be distributed on the 1st January next following my decease among the aged poor of the village Badsey by the clergyman for the time being of that parish
  • £10 also expended on blankets to be distributed on 1st January among the aged from the village of Cropthorne by the clergyman for the time being of that parish
  • To my late husband’s niece, Lydia Doughty, the daughter of the late Benjamin Appelbee of Snitterfield, £19 19s 
  • To my old servant, Ann Crisp, now the wife of Henry Crisp of Badsey, £10 
  • To each of my executors hereinafter named, £19 19s
  • To my grandchild, Florence Amy Gibbs, the portrait of my dear late daughter, Ann
  • To all my grandchildren divided equally, all my plate, pitchers, articles, linen of all descriptions, books and pictures 

To my nephew, Richard Loxley Dingley of Evesham, chemist and druggist, and my friend, Herbert New of Evesham, solicitor, all the rest and residue of my personal estate and effect, to act as trustees, to sell and convert into money, and thence to be given as follows [one moiety was to go to the widower and children of her deceased daughter, Anne, and the other moiety was to go to the children of her deceased son, Thomas]

  • To my son-in-law, William Gibbs of Songar Grange in the county of Warwick, Farmer, a sixth part or share of the moiety 
  • To my five grandchildren, the children of William Gibbs and my deceased daughter, Ann, his wife (namely Edward Appelbee Gibbs, Florence Amy Gibbs, William Gibbs, John Arthur Gibbs and Roland Loxley Gibbs) as living at the time of my decease and shall live to 21, the remaining five sixth parts or shares of the said moiety
  • To my six grandchildren, the children of my dear deceased son, Thomas Appelbee, late of Evesham, banker (namely Horace Ridley Appelbee, Annie Helen Appelbee, Alice Elizabeth Appelbee, Herbert Edward Neville Appelbee, Arthur Sidney Appebee and Francis Jerram Appelbee) as living at the time of my decease and shall live to 21, the other moiety or equal half part in equal shares
