Copies of two newspaper articles from The Evesham Journal about the removal of the Wellingtonia poplar tree in the garden of The Dower House, High Street, Badsey. 12th August 1999 article, "Villagers go back to their root to say goodbye" shows photograph of Michael Shaw and Roy Page on the upturned tree stump which was removed by new owners of The Dower House, Michael and Veronica Shaw, 25 years after 100 ft was lopped off it; mentions Oswald Mosley. 19th August 1999, letter from Don Wasley of Baker Mews, Maldon, Essex, regarding the article which brought back memories of an eventful evening before the war when he and Steve Crisp, Phil Sparrow, Bill Salter and two others hatched a plan to hoist the Union Jack on top of the tree the evening before a garden party and Black Shirts rally at which Oswald Mosley attended, invited by Lance Johns. Phil Sparrow was the principal climber, helped by Steve. Also mentions Salters shop, Mr J Knight and Don's sister, Mrs Betty Styles.
