MISS PEGGY JOHNS AND MR A M C LEWIS

A picturesque wedding took place at St James’ Church, Badsey, on Saturday when Miss Margaret Eileen Alice (Peggy) Johns was married to Mr Anthony Myrddin Cyril Lewis.

Miss Johns is the second daughter of Mrs Alice Johns and the late Mr E Johns of Harrington House, Badsey, and the bridegroom is son of Dr & Mrs Cyril Lewis of Park Place, Cardiff.

The ceremony was conducted by the Vicar of Badsey, Canon W C Allsebrook, with Mr H Sharp at the organ.  The service included the hymns “Lead Us, Heavenly Father, lead us”, “The Voice that Breathed O’er Eden” and “O Perfect Love”.  As the couple left the church, Mr Sharp played Mendelssohn’s Wedding March.

The best man was Dr Peter C Lewis, the bridegroom’s brother.

The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr S H Johns, looked charming in a gown of white moiré with an overdress of white tulle, embroidered with silver drops.  She also wore a coronet of orange blossom.  Her veil was over 120 years old, and had been given her by Mrs Cyril Lewis, the bridegroom’s mother.  Her bouquet was of white roses.

SIX BRIDESMAIDS

There were six bridesmaids and three pages.  The three elder bridesmaids – the Misses Lucy Johns (sister of the bride) and Alice Clayton and Bunty Oliver (friends of the bride) wore dresses of spring green organdie over spring green taffeta.  They also wore hats and carried muffs trimmed with pink roses.

The small attendants, the Misses Anne, Sheila and Sylvia Cross, wore frocks in the same colour scheme and carried wreaths of fern and pink roses and silver horseshoes trimmed with pink roses.  The three pages, Master David Heathfield, Master Barry Jones and Master Bruce Jones, wore green satin blouses and darker green velvet trousers.

A reception at Harrington House, attended by 76 guests, followed the ceremony.

The bridegroom presented the bride with a rose-pink enamel toilet set and received from her a camera.  His gifts to the bridesmaids were bracelets and to the pages gold tie-pins, all the gifts being inscribed with the date.

TOURING HONEYMOON

When Mr & Mrs Lewis left for their honeymoon, which is being spent touring, Mrs Lewis was wearing a powder blue costume with a blue fox fur.

The bridegroom, who is a member of the staff of the National Provincial Bank, was formerly employed at the bank’s Evesham branch.  Just before Christmas he was moved to the Llanelly branch.  He was a well-known cricketer in the district and was a member of the Evesham Cricket Club.

The bride was employed in the Evesham branch of Lloyd’s Bank for four years.  She was a member of Evesham Sports Club and played hockey for the Ladies’ 1st XI for several seasons.
