VICAR OF BADSEY BEREAVED – DEATH OF MR W B J ALLSEBROOK
Deep sympathy will be extended to Canon W C Allsebrook (Vicar of Badsey and Rural Dean of Evesham) in the death of his only son, Mr William Basil James Allsebrook, who died at Badsey Vicarage on Tuesday.
Mr Allsebrook, who was 24 years of age and a native of Badsey, had never experienced good health, and had been seriously ill for six months before his death.
DEATH OF MRS P J BUTLER
At the time that the Aldington Enclosure Act was passed in 1807, George Day was the largest landowner in Aldington, owning 189 acres, which was just over a quarter of the land. His name is prominent on the map which was drawn up, prior to the Schedules being issued the following year.
ASKED FOR A LIFT – Remarkable Incident at Wickhamford
In 1891, the Electoral Register for Wickhamford listed thirty voters. The majority were resident in the village, but nine lived elsewhere. Only men aged 21 years and over had the vote at that time and they had to be householders or lodgers with an income of at least £10 per annum.
FORMER POW WEDS – MISS M A STRATFORD AND MR P H SPARROW
St Andrew’s Church, Hampton, was the scene on Saturday of the wedding between Miss Margaret Agnes Stratford, eldest daughter of Mr & Mrs F Stratford of 149 Cheltenham Road, Evesham, and Mr Philip Henry Sparrow, only son of Mrs and the late Mr L Sparrow of Southview, Badsey. The Vicar, Rev V F Honniball, officiated at the ceremony and the hymn, “Lead us, Heavenly Father, lead us” was sung.
The wedding took place at St James’ Church, Badsey, on Monday of Miss Joyce Evelyn Heritage, eldest daughter of Mr & Mrs W J Heritage of 3 Synehurst Crescent, Badsey, and Corporal William Edward Arnold, RASC, son of Mr & Mrs W E Arnold of 16 Doon Street, Liverpool.
The service, which was choral and included the hymns, “The voice that breathed o’er Eden” and “Lead us, Heavenly Father, lead us”, was conducted by the Vicar of Bengeworth, the Rev F James Wells.
DISTRICT NEWS, BADSEY WEDDING
The bells of the Parish Church pealed forth on Saturday last on the occasion of the wedding of Miss Eileen Joan Andrew, daughter of Mr & Mrs W H Andrew of 2 Chapel Street, Badsey, and Mr Eric Henry Percival Chasty, son of Mr & Mrs T H Chasty of Windsor. The bride has been serving in the ATS while the groom is in the RASC. The Vicar (The Rev J G Jeffreys) officiated at the service and Mrs Marshall was at the organ.
