DIGBY, William – Perpetual Curate of the Littletons

William Digby (c1776-1848) officiated at two marriages at Badsey in 1808 and 1809 whilst Perpetual Curate of the Littletons.  The first service was in August 1808 during the interregnum of Curates Daniel Jones and William Dowell.  

William Digby was probably the son of the Reverend William Digby who died in 1789.

William Digby was a student of Christ Church, Oxford.  He was ordained as a deacon at Christ Church, Oxford, on 3rd June 1798 and as a priest on 19th May 1799.  He was appointed Perpetual Curate of Offenham on 29th August 1800.  On 11th December 1807 he became Perpetual Curate of North and Middle Littleton and also of South Littleton.

Reverend Digby had several other appointments after moving away from the Vale of Evesham:  prebendary of Worcester Cathedral from March 1813, Vicar of Wolverley 1813-1814, Rector of Harvington 1814-1818, Vicar of Cropthorne 1818-1826, Vicar of Wichenford 1826-1831, Vicar of Coleshill and Rector of Sheldon from 1831, Master of St Oswald’s Hospital, Worcester from 1833.  He was latterly also Perpetual Curate of Offenham.

William Digby married Charlotte Elizabeth on 3rd January 1803.  Charlotte died of consumption on 2nd September 1820 at Malvern.  Five years later a monument was erected in her memory in the Bishop’s Chapel, Worcester Cathedral.

Reverend Digby died at Coleshill on 21st January 1848, aged 72.
