Darling

I am again postponing writing at length as I want to rest this morning after having been out for a few minutes to send your telegram and I feel more out with excitement!

Early this morning I heard of the death in action of two men friends, one of whom was only in the firing line 2 hours. This news depressed me and then I went to the other extremes and got fearfully joyful when Matron said I could have Thursday, Friday, Saturday in Xmas week. I only asked for one day – then she asked me how long I would be having. As I did not know I made a shot at four days’ leave thinking you’d probably get Xmas Eve to Boxing Day.

Best love dearest. I only hope our plans will come off this time.

Ever your own
Mela
