My dear little Judy

Just a few lines to ask how the golliwogs are and Scot and the cats and everybody else.  I hope Whitey hasn’t been any more voyages to make him sea-sick.  Did they all have a good Christmas dinner?

When you get this it will be quite hot summer weather here, even now we sit out in the verandah at the side of the house.  There is a beautiful Crimson Rambler just coming out on a summer house in the garden and there are lots of other roses out though they don’t do very well here it is too near the sea.  It is not very nice for paddling just here but last Saturday we went to a place called Island Bay where lots of children were paddling and enjoying themselves.  You would like scrambling about among the hills here, they are so pretty, tomorrow we are going to walk up one of the hills to a waterfall, we shall take our tea and have a picnic and boil the billy which is a sort of kettle which they make tea in.

You will have some of your boys at home when this letter reaches you.  I wonder how the play went off at Boo’s school, I hope he had a part in it.  Give him my love.  I must write to him by another mail.  You know I always like to get your little letters, you have written me some nice ones since I went away.  I expect you have been helping Mother and Detty a lot since I saw you last.  I expect you think of me sometimes fast asleep in bed while you are having dinner or tea and I think of you in the same way.

They have a big collie dog here whom they call Towger, but his real name is Roy, they haven’t any cats, but there is a horse named Grisel and a few fowls.

Goodbye, now, lots of love and hugs and kisses from

May May.
