Details of Will

In the name of God Amen, the 2nd January 1653, I Margarett Horne of Badsey in the county of Worcester, widow, being sick and weak in body yet of sound and perfect mind and memory thanks be given to Almighty God, I do make and ordain this my last will and testament in writing, manner and form following:

First I give and bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God trusting and assuredly believing to be saved by and through the only merritts of Jesus Christ my Redeemer And my body I commend as earth to earth to be interred at the discretion of my Executor [?]

  • And whereas Francis Horne my late husband in his life time did make and declare his last will and testament in writing whereof he made me the said Margarett his sole Executrix And by the same will did give  to Elloner his daughter late the wife of Thomas Combe the sum of £30 And to Ann his daughter late wife of William Roberts the sum of £20 And afterwards the said Francis my late husband upon the marriage of the said Elloner his daughter with the said Thomas Combe did give and pay to the said Thomas Combe for a portion with his daughter the sum of £40 And upon the marriage the said Ann with the said William Roberts did give and pay to the said William Roberts for a portion with the said Ann the sum of £4? In lieu and full satisfaction of the legacies which he had so given by his said will
  • And afterwards the said Francis Horne died without revoking the said will
  • Now therefore my will and meaning is and I do hereby declare and appoint that if the said Thomas Combe and William Roberts do and shall severally within one month next after my decease make and seal [?] to my Executor [?] of the legacies be given and devised to their said wives severally That then my said Executor shall within one year after my decease pay to the said Thomas Combe for the use of his children the sum of £4 and to the said William Roberts for the use of his children the sum of 20 shillings and not otherwise
  • Also I give to Ralph Horne my eldest son the sum of £4 and to John Horne my youngest son I give the lease of the ground in Wiffenfd [thought to be Wickhamford] called the Hill Close
  • And to Thomas Morris my brother the sum of 20 shillings
  • And all the rest of my goods, chattels and personal estate whereof I now am executing to my late husband ought to stand or be possessed I give and bequeath unto my said two sons Ralph and John Horne equally to be divided between them

And I do nominate and appoint the said Ralph Horne to be my full and sole Executor And my brother John Morris and Kinsman Robert Morris, overseers of this my will

In witness whereof I have hereunto put my hand and seal and published this to be my last will and testament the day and year above said

Notes
Note that Margarett Horne's will states that she made it on 2nd January 1653 - this was the date according to the Julian calendar whereby the year began on 25th March. Thus a date between 1st January and 24th March was really 1654.
