Quarterly Badsey Society newsletter sent to members. Events: AGM; where it was agreed that Will Dallimore would be Chairman, Terry Sparrow would be Treasurer and Liz Dyer would also be on the committee. Talk on Enclosure Maps as an introduction to The Badsey Society’s new project, The Development of the Parishes of Badsey and Aldington since 1807. Project funded by Local Heritage Initiative and paid for copies of the 200 year old Enclosure Maps. Future events: Marquee at Badsey First School’s Summer Fete and stand at Badsey Flower Show with exhibitions on Development project plus Village Walk in Aldington following the route of the 1901 census enumerator. Request was made for memories of people involved with Badsey Pig Club, an organisation for families who owned a pig, a prized possession. Excerpts from Flora Thompson’s “Lark Rise to Candleford” which mentioned life and times of family pigs. Neil Thould’s grandmother, Ivy Stanley, mentioned her husband involved in transportation of dead pig in Elgar Hartwell’s (village butcher) van to “San Remo” at Bretforton Road. During the war it was forbidden to kill pigs. Help was requested with transcribing old documents which accompany the Enclosure Maps.
