WRIGHT (later WAITE, then GEORGE), Kate – emigrated 1883

Kate Wright (1874-1926) was born at Badsey on 13th November 1874, the third of five children of Adolphus Careless Wright, a farm bailiff, and his wife, Emma (née Smith).  She was baptised in St James’ Church, Badsey, on 17th February 1875. Both the birth registration and baptism give her name as Kate, but in later American records she appears as Kathryn.   At the time of the 1881 census, they were living in a house in High Street, Badsey, which is now occupied by The Spar.

At the age of nine, Kate emigrated with her family from Badsey in 1883 in order to seek a new life in America.  Their destination was Geauga County, Ohio, where several Badsey families had emigrated to in the 1870s.

In about 1900, Kate married firstly Willard L Waite, a book-keeper.  They were living at Chagrin Falls Village, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, in 1910.  They had two sons:  Howard G (c1906) and Raymond W (c1909).  By 1910 they lived in Cleveland Township, Cuyahoga County.  The marriage was dissolved in 1917 and Kate married again on 2nd July 1920 to Charles E George.

After a prolonged illness, Kate died at Charity Hospital on 24th November 1926.  She was buried four days later at Maple Shade Cemetery, Auburn.
