EVESHAM WEDDING – Miss J N L Hampton and Mr F E Knight
Miss Joyce Nancy Lillian Hampton, daughter of Mr & Mrs E J Hampton of Sinloa, Broadway Road, Evesham, was married at St Peter’s Church, Bengeworth, Evesham, on Saturday, to Mr Frank Edwin Knight, only son of Mr J E Knight and the late Mrs Knight of Fairview, Badsey.
The bride’s father is a well-known bookseller and newsagent in the town and she has been employed in the office at Messrs Collins Bros Ltd. The bridegroom is a master at St Thomas’ School (Senior Department), Birmingham. Both were educated at Prince Henry’s Grammar school, Evesham.
The bride was an active member of Evesham Amateur Operatic Society and, together with her sister, was well known for her dancing. She has been a member of the society for about five years and has taken part in several of its productions, including “Floradora”, “Katinka” and “Rio Rita”. A native of Evesham, she is also a member of the hockey section of Evesham Sports Club, at one time playing for the second eleven team.

The bride and bridegroom are both members of Evesham Rowing Club.
The ceremony was conducted by the Vicar of Bengeworth, the Rev F James Wells, assisted by Canon W C Allsebrook, Vicar of Badsey. The organist was Mr H J King of Badsey, and the service included the hymn “O Perfect Love”.
The bride, who was given away by her father, was attired in a gown of gold lacquered net worn over peach coloured taffeta with a veil and headdress of pale pink net and a wreath of small rosebuds. She carried a white Prayer book with a gold cross.
There were two bridesmaids, Miss Elizabeth Helen Hampton (sister of the bride) and Miss Sylvia Joan Roberts (friend of the bride). They wore Victorian dresses of pale blue spotted net over blue taffeta, with poke bonnets ruched in net and carried posies.
The bridegroom’s friend, Mr Ivor G Davies of Swansea, was best man.
A reception followed at the Northwick Hotel, attended by about 60 guests.
When they left for their honeymoon, which is being spent at the Isle of Wight, Mrs Knight was wearing a cyclamen blue coat and dress with clover accessories.
The bridegroom’s present to the bride was a gold cross and to the bridesmaids silver crosses and chains. He received from his bride a gentleman’s wardrobe. Among the many presents were gifts from the office staff of Messrs Collins Bros and the senior department staff of St Thomas’ School.
