The Valuation Survey, undertaken in period just prior to, and in the first part of, the Great War, recorded a large glasshouse nursery in Wickhamford. The details of the business were taken on 13th January 1915 and the owner was Hubert Lindsell Richards.

The death of Arthur Plant of Aldington on 3rd January 2021 at the age of 93, has provoked an outpouring of messages of condolence on social media. With the exception of his years in national service, Arthur spent all his life in the Vale of Evesham, 70 of which were spent in Aldington. He always had a cheery word for everybody and will be greatly missed.
BADSEY BRIDEGROOM AT BRETFORTON – Plant-Cook
Badsey and Bretforton families were united at St Leonard’s Church, Bretforton, on Saturday, when Miss Dorothy Amy Cook, daughter of Mrs and the late Mr A Y Cook of 3 New Street, Bretforton, was married to Mr Richard Arthur Plant, youngest son of Mr & Mrs J H Plant of 15 Synehurst Avenue, Badsey. They will make their future home at Edenbrook, Middle Littleton.

Mr William Dennis Clarke, son of Mr & Mrs W Clarke of 2 Church Road, Hampton, married Miss Jean Elizabeth Smith, daughter of Mr & Mrs H Smith of 1 Shor Street, Evesham, and Henry, son of Mr & Mrs J Plant of Synehurst, Badsey, wedded Miss Mavis Clarke, also of 2 Church Bank, Hampton……
Annie Bell and William Marsh were, as far as we know, the last couple to emigrate from the Badsey area to Ohio in the latter part of the 19th century. This is the story of their journey through life together. How their story fits into the wider historical context is the subject of another article.

When Badsey Flower Show is able to take place again, it will be without the measured tones of the person who, for over 40 years, has made the announcements over the tannoy. Gordon Lashford, “the voice of the Flower Show”, has died on 13th December 2020 at the age of 90.

On 29th August 1911, Dessiechmun George Freeman signed a Declaration of Intention form (right). This was a form stating that a person intended to renounce allegiance to a foreign country and become a citizen of the United States of America. He is of interest because he stated that his place of birth was Wickhamford, England.
During the 2020 lockdowns, Tony and Maureen Spinks began rediscovering the local footpaths in the Badsey area. There are some glorious churches in the area. Whilst most of these are not as accessible as they were in pre-COVID days, we can still appreciate the magnificence of their architecture. The majority of the churches are within a 5-mile radius of Badsey (all six churches within the United Benefice are featured), with one slightly further away.
