Mrs Lilian Mary Hatcher of 12a Green Leys, Badsey, has died in Avonside Hospital, Evesham, aged 77. Born in South Littleton, she was a daughter of the late Mr & Mrs Teheodore Carelss, who lived in Badsey after moving from Littleton. In 1926 she married Mr Alec Hatcher of Badsey and the lived in Badsey all their married life. For many years she assisted her husband on his market garden land. She is survived by her husband and one son, Mr Maurice Hatcher of Evesham.

Mr William Mustoe of Church View, Badsey attained his 100th birthday on Sunday when he was the recipient of scores of congratulatory messages and telegrams.

Charles Henry Cox, second son of Mr & Mrs G F Cox of Delia, Wickhamford, is one of Britain’s Paratroops, and his photograph figured prominently in recent Press publicity given to this new branch of the Services.

As briefly reported in last week’s Journal, the funeral of Sergt Ronald William Ballard, RAF, took place at St James’ Church, Badsey, on Thursday last. Sergt Ballard had previously been posted missing from air operations.
Saturday 24 September 1966 – Death of Charles Henry Gardiner
Mr C H Gardiner, perhaps the most able and popular public servant the Vale of Evesham has ever had, died last Friday in a Cheltenham nursing home, nine weeks after his retirement. As Clerk to the Evesham Rural District council for 38 years, he made a name for efficiency with humanity which was a by-word in local government. He was 64. Illness had hastened his retirement.
