"(By order of the Trustees of the Will of the late Thomas Appelbee, deceased, and the Trustee of the Settlement of the late Mr and Mrs William Gibbs, deceased) ..."
This is a particularly important auction in Badsey's history. A large area of the village was offered for sale. Many of the houses put up during the market gardening boom were built on these plots.

This auction followed the death of Richard Ashwin. The Manor House at Aldington belonged to the wealthy Ashwin family of Bretforton for many years but Richard was the last Ashwin to occupy it. Five years earlier he appeared on the 1861 census as a widower at the Manor House living with three of his servants. He was described as 'a farmer of 260 acres employing 9 men and 5 boys' born at Bretforton. The house itself was not offered for sale here and after Richard's death, was rented to tenants, including Arthur Savory who lived there between 1873 to 1901.
"All the Lots (excepting the whole of Lot 1, 4a. 3r. 5p., portion of Lot 2, la. 0r. 10p., part of Lot 7, and the whole of Lot 9,) are freehold, tithe free, and land tax redeemed; the excepted Lots and portions of Lots are Leasehold for the residue of a term of 1000 years, created in the year 1657, and are for all practical purposes equal to freehold.
Sale of land belonging to Joseph Woodward.
