3rd January 1881

My dearest Husband,

I am so sorry Edith did not get my letter in time as I fear things may not have been quite comfortable for you.  I am glad to hear the children are quite well.

I shall start with Jack by the 2.15 tomorrow & shall be very glad to see all my dear ones again.

We have just come back from choosing the piano, a Brinsmead upright grand, it seems a nice one & I hope they will like it.  I have just bought some print dresses for the servants, I hope they will like them. I am so sorry about Mr Haynes, I suppose it is another abscess.

Now with fond love, hoping to see you tomorrow

I remain
Your loving wife

Eugénie N Sladden
