My Dearest Wife,

It is fortunate that I have not arranged to come home on Wednesday as Ridgeway has just been summoned to Ireland by telegram (reason not known) and of course I must be on the spot.  I hope there is not anything the matter and that he will return in a day or two.  I am busy and it is getting late so you must be content with this brief scribble.  Hope you and Fanny will manage nicely all by yourselves and that you will get a fine day for a drive.

Ever your own affect. Husband

Julius Sladden
