Dec 23 1878

My Dearest Wife,

I arrived all right about 15 minutes late this morning, it is very cold here the river was frozen over last night which has not been the case hitherto.  We have been fairly busy to-day, I find the total of the rates for this month, up to to-night, amounts to 129 “ 7 “ 0 against 91 “ 9 “6 last month, which is better, but of course this month is usually one of the best of the winter months.

I hope the breast keeps on the mend I must say it begins to look better. I hope we shall not have to wait to-morrow at the Junction for the last down train, as on ordinary days, if we do not I may be home before 9 p.m. but you must not expect me till you see me.  I will call at the Bliss’s as I come up as I rather fancy you may go to see Mrs Willie but be sure and wrap up well.  Kiss our little one for me

And ever believe me

Your loving Husband

Julius Sladden
