My dearest Wife,

Having got through a flower show committee meeting and other matters this evening I must write you a few lines before I go to bed.

I was glad to have your letter by the first post on my birthday, thank you for the nice little stand which I like very much, the children have given me the choice of the two water colours and I think shall choose Brixham.

I am glad Cyril’s to spend the week end at Eastbourne and I hope Mela will be allowed to come over, I shall be interested to hear how she gets on with Aunt Lizzie.

We have made up the bazaar accounts and there seems to be a clear profit of £101-5-8 which is eminently satisfactory.

Mary went off by the 1.30 to-day, she seems to have enjoyed her visit very much and has certainly been most lively.

I took all four girls to Worcester yesterday afternoon to see the cricket, Braund of Somerset made the highest score of this year viz 257 not out, so you can imagine the play was not slow, I think they all thoroughly enjoyed the outing.

Lizzie comes on Wednesday by the Reading train, we may be at the New’s garden party that day but May is writing her and we shall not stay late.

I hear Long Hyde is sold to some people from Warminster who are said to be well off and to be contemplating some alterations.

The roses are looking very nice now, I sent some to Miss Phillip’s yesterday and gave Mary some to-day, to-morrow they want some in Evesham for Alexandra day.

Edith Young leaves on Monday so we shall be quite a small party for a day or two.

I hope you are feeling all the stronger for the sea air, you have had nice weather but here people are calling out for rain and everyone but the haymakers would be glad to have a good soaking.

Much love to you dear, and to all the circle

Your affectionate Husband

Julius Sladden
