Dear Ma’am

I hate to bother you while you are away on what I know is a well-deserved holiday - I hope you will forgive my doing so. I wonder if you remember me - and saying that very probably I might be allowed to have my dog with me when I had been posted? I was more delighted than I can say when I knew I was posted here. I had longed for it so much that I thought it was quite impossible - I have to keep pinching myself to make quite sure it isn’t all a dream! I will do my utmost to please you - and to do all I can for the girls on draught - in the way of amusing them in the evenings etc when my other work is done. My little dog has been all over Great Britain with me and is absolutely no trouble. You will not know he is in the building - and I should be deeply grateful if you’d let me have him on condition he is a nuisance to nobody.

This is a very informal letter and I am rather ashamed of it - but I just had to say what I felt! Will you drop a postcard to the address below if I may bring back “Chunkie” with me - I am going home till Tuesday:

13 Foxcombe Road, Bath

I hope you are having a most delightful holiday and that you will come back feeling quite fit.

I shall have the pleasure of reporting to you on Tuesday at the usual time.

Allow me to remain, Ma’am.

Yours most cordially

Gladys Hulbroth
