Ida Mary PARKES (née WAGNER) (1872-1947)

Biographical Details

Ida Mary Parkes, née Wagner (1872-1947), was the mother-in-law of Charles Archibald Mourilyan who was the nephew of Eugénie Sladden (née Mourilyan).

Ida was born at Hertford in 1872, the daughter of Orlando and Eliza Wagner.  Ida trained as a nurse and, in 1891, was working at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, 51 Waterloo Road, Lamebth.

Ida married Septimus Alexander Parkes in 1892 in the Cherstey district.  They had three daughters:  Sylvia Ida (1893-1970), Daphne Adela (1896-?) and Ruth Esme (1898-1964).  The family seemed to move around quite a bit as Sylvia was born at Hertford, the two younger girls at Surbiton, Surrey, and, by 1901, they were living at Hove, Sussex.

In January 1903, when they were then living, 19 York Villas, Brighton, Ida was widowed, leaving her with three children under ten.

In 1911, Ida was staying with her sister, Ethel A Maybury, and husband, Lysander, in Southsea, whilst the three girls were at boarding school in Weybridge, Surrey.  By 1914 she was living at Enderlie, Emsworth.

Ida died on 24th October 1947 at 50 Thames Eyot, Twickenham, aged 75.
