Jessie SIMPSON (née SUTHERLAND) (1884-?)

Biographical Details

Jessie Simpson, née Sutherland, (1884-1957) was the wife of Miles Simpson who was the step-son of Mary Simpson (née Robinson), niece of Eugénie Sladden.

Jessie was born in India in 1884, the elder of two children of the Reverend Dr William Summers Sutherland of Kalimpong and his wife, Isabel (née Slesser).

On 13th November 1913 Jessie married Miles Godwin Simpson in St Andrew’s Church, Calcutta, Bengal, India.  They had two daughters:  Kate (1914) and Margaret (1915), both born in India.  Concerns for Jessie’s health after the birth of her second daughter were mentioned in a letter written by Mary Anna Robinson on 2nd December 1915.

The Simpson family returned to live in the UK in 1926, their proposed address being The Steps, Withington, Gloucestershire.

Jessie’s husband died in Edinburgh in 1957 but it is not known when she died.
