Charles Newman TANNER (1869-1934)

Biographical Details

Charles Newman Tanner (1869-1934) was the brother-in-law of Ethelwyn Tanner (née Mourilyan), who was the niece of Eugénie Sladden (née Mourilyan).

Charles was born at Plymouth in 1869, the second of five children of and eldest son of Charles and Agnes Tanner.   He was ordained as a priest in the Church of England and became Vicar of Horspath, Oxfordshire.

Charles married Florence Maud Sandifer on 30th January 1900 at St Peter’s Church, Bayswater, London.  Charles and Florence had one son:  Frederick Newman Tanner (1901-1996).

Charles is mentioned in a letter of 29th October 1914 from Fred Mourilyan, when he refers to his daughter, Ethelwyn, and her husband, Courtney, going to visit his clergyman brother.

Charles died at The Vaga, near Monmouth, on 10th November 1934.
