Geoffrey Hubert Nigel Phillips (1913-1965) was the nephew of Mary Sladden, being the son of Mary’s elder sister, Irene, and was also the godson of Mary’s husband, Arthur.

Geoffrey Phillips was born on 19th October 1913 in Glamorganshire, the only son of Evan William Monger Hubert Phillips, a doctor, and his wife, Margaret Irene (née Williams), known as Irene or Rene.

Geoffrey became a medical practitioner like his father.  At the outbreak of the Second World War he was living in Birmingham and was in his final year as a medical student.  Later in the war he served as a doctor with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.

He married Mary Doreen Smith in 1949 in the Solihull district of Warwickshire.

Geoffrey died at the County Hospital, Hertford, on 10th September 1965 and was buried at Margam Abbey, Glamorganshire.  His home address at the time of death was Westmill House, Ware, Hertfordshire.
