Constance Mildred McCULLY (1883-1942)

Biographical Details

Constance Mildred McCully (1883-1942) was employed as governess by Fanny Walton (the niece of Eugénie Sladden).

Constance McCully was born on 20th October 1883 in Dublin, the third of six children of John Montgomery McCully and his wife, Elizabeth Hayes McCully.  John McCully died on 5th November 1888 when Constance was five and the youngest child was just one.  The McCullys had moved to England by 1901.

A letter of 16th May 1915 revealed that Miss McCully had become so ill that they had to send for her mother to fetch her home.  Even though they liked her very much, it was impossible to keep her as governess as she had become so very delicate.  By September 1915, Fanny had found a new governess to replace Constance.

At the time of the 1939 register, Constance and her two sisters, also unmarried, and their mother, lived at Dalkeith House, 30 Cambridge Park, Twickenham.

Constance died on 11th January 1942 at the Nightingale Nursing Home, Twickenham.
