Biographical Details

Evelyn Baring, 1st Lord Cromer, is mentioned in Julius Sladden’s letter of 24th July 1915.  He refers to Lord Cromer’s article in The Spectator entitled “Germany against the world”.

Lord Cromer was a British statesman, diplomat and colonial administrator, spending much of his time in Egypt.  He remained active in politics until the end of his life.  In 1916 he was appointed to the Dardanelles Commission but the strain was too much and he died on 29th January 1917.  He is buried in Wimborne Road Cemetery, Bournemouth.
