Eve Muriel Lankester HAYNES (later HUTCHISON) (1881-1936)

Biographical Details

Eve Muriel Lankester Haynes (1881-1946) was the daughter of Horace and Lucy Haynes who were friends of Julius and Eugénie Sladden; she was of a similar age to the elder Sladden girls.

Eve Haynes was born on 14th July 1881 in Evesham, the third of five children of Horace Eyre Haynes, a surgeon and general practitioner, and his wife, Lucy Marion (née Jones).

Eve is mentioned several times in letters of the late 1890s when she began participating in a literary club that her parents and the Sladdens attended.

Eve married Arthur Jaffray Hutchison, a throat, nose and ear surgeon, in 1908 in Steyning, Sussex.  In 1911 they lived at 84 Lansdowne Place, Hove, Sussex, with Eve’s younger sister, Christine, and three servants.
Arthur died on 20th October 1933 at the Mansion House Hotel, Evesham.  At the time of the 1939 Register, widow Eve was living at Green Gables, Brentwood, Essex, with her sister-in-law, Margaret Haynes, and a servant.  

Eve died on 17th January 1946 at Hove, Sussex, aged 64.
