Mary ATTWOOD (1871-1902)

Biographical Details

Mary Attwood, née Russell (1871-1902), was the wife of Harry Attwood who was an employee of Julius Sladden at Sladden & Collier Brewery, Evesham.

Mary Russell was born at Wormington, Gloucestershire, in 1871, the twin daughter of John Russell, an agricultural labourer, and his wife, Margaret (née Yates).  She was baptized at Womington on 16th July 1871.  Her twin sister, Jane, was baptized 16 days before Mary, but perhaps that was because she was weak at birth and not expected to live.  In the event. Jane died in November 1871.

Mary was working as a servant in Yardley in 1891.  On 5th October 1896 see married Harry Attwood at Wormington.  By 1901 they were living at 6 Avondale Terrace, Evesham St Lawrence.  

In May 1902, Mary gave birth to a baby girl but tragedy befell the family on 1st June 1902 when Mary died, apparently caused by a clot of blood on the brain, and the baby was suffocated.
