Kent - Ash: Guston Farm

Guston Farm is situated in the north of the parish of Ash, on the edge of the marshes.  It formed part of the estate of the Coleman family of Goss Hall, Kent.

At the time of the 1851 and 1861 census, Thomas Coleman, described as a farmer of 270 acres, lived at Guston Farm House, Ash.  In 1861, his 17-year-old nephew, Francis Nixon Sladden, known as Frank, was also staying at Guston, learning the farming trade.

By 1881, Frank Sladden had married and lived at Guston with his family; they also lived there at the time of the 1891 census.
