COLESHILL, George (1898-1975) – Royal Air Force

Driver George Coleshill (1898-1975) was living in Wickhamford around 1939. He was born in Holborn, London and in 1911 was living with his widowed mother, Susan, in central London.

George joined the Army on 17th March 1917 and went to France, but transferred to the Royal Flying Corps as a driver on 24th January 1918.  He was moved to the newly formed Royal Air Force (No 126113) on 1st April 1918 and was transferred to the R.A.F. General Reserve on 31st July 1919.

Although not on the 1939 Electoral Roll in Wickhamford, he was listed as living at the Sandys Arms for the population Register drawn up in September that year.  His occupation was given as a chauffeur and his mother, Susan, was also living there at that time.
