My Darling

I managed to get the handkerchiefs earlier than I expected.  They are a very prosaic sort of present for the anniversary of our engagement so that I think you must swop over with the little present I shall be sending you for the 9th but which isn’t ready to send for the 5th!  I send the handkerchiefs early in any case so that if you get sudden orders to go abroad you will have them with you.

I send them with my very best love and dearest remembrances of the 5th of May.

I must get ready for church now.  God bless and keep you, Sweetheart.

Ever your devoted

Mela.

PS - Your Father has been busy brewing Friday, Saturday and again today so as to get as much done as possible before the new taxation comes into force.
