My dear Mrs Sladden

Thank you so much for your letter yesterday and your good wishes.  The announcement of my engagement to Arthur has given me a great deal of pleasure and I feel that I am a very lucky girl to have been chosen by him to be his wife.  It is so nice to think that his MB exam is over successfully and that when he returns to hospital he will be free from all worry on that point.  I have enjoyed having him here for the last few days very much, I only wish his visit could have been longer.  The time has gone so quickly and he has to leave us tomorrow.  I should very much like to come to you later on, thank you for our invitation.  My mother hopes to write to you soon to arrange for Juliet’s visit in August.  My sister has a little son so he is receiving most of the attention this week.

Yesterday I went up the Brecon Beacons with Arthur and one of my sisters, we had a very hard climb on account of the wind but we enjoyed it immensely.  Although I have lived so near for so many years, I had never been to the top before.  The highest point is about 2900 feet and on clear days I believe there is a very good view but yesterday it was too misery for us to see any long distance.

With much love and many thanks again for all your kindness to me.

Believe me

Yours affectionately

Mary C Williams
