Helen Gertrude GEPP (later BROAD) (1886-1960)

Biographical Details

Helen Gertrude Gepp (1886-1960) was the daughter of the Vicar of Badsey.

Helen Gepp was born on 8th May 1886 at Bradfield, Berkshire, the second of five children of the Reverend Charles Granville Gepp by his third wife, Alice (née Wallington).  She was baptized at Bradfield on 27th May 1886.

When she was a year old, she moved with her family to Badsey Vicarage when her father became the Vicar of the parish.

They left the village in 1897 and moved to Wood Norton, Norfolk.  Helen’s father died in 1903 when she was 16 years old and the family moved to 192 Unthank Road, Norwich.

In 1911, Helen was working as a nursemaid to the two sons of the Reverend Thomas Waters at St Mary’s Vicarage, Bury St Edmunds.

Helen married Sidney Broad in 1917 in the Kings Lynn area.  They had a daughter, Helen, born in 1919.  In 1939 they were living at The Lodge, Heydon, Norfolk, where Sidney was estate foreman; Helen worked in the Land Army.

Helen died on 4th December 1960, aged 74, at The Lodge, Heydon.  Sidney died in 1972.
