John Noakes Coleman (1826-1907), was the uncle of Julius Sladden.  

John Noakes Coleman was born in 1826 at Goss Hall, Ash, Kent, the youngest of five children of Thomas Coleman and his wife, Elizabeth (née Noakes).  He was baptised at Ash on 16th April 1826.  John’s father farmed 340 acres at Goss Hall.  

John became a brewer.  It may have been under his uncle that Julius Sladden trained as a brewer.

On 4th August 1860 at Upper Holloway St John, Islington, John married Sarah Pocock.  Eleven years earlier, his older brother, George, had married Sarah’s cousin, Marian Rees.

Sarah and John had four children:  Elizabeth, Mary Leanna, Thomas and Dora M.  At the time of the 1861 and 1871 census they lived at Brewery House, Great Mongeham, Kent.  In the 1880s and 1890s they lived at Kent House, Upper Deal Road and in 1901 they lived at Packington House Victoria Park, Bristol.

John Noakes Coleman died in Bristol in August 1907 and Sarah died nine years later.
