Saturday 16 July 1892 - Walter Blake summoned for supposed assault on Charles Jones (Evesham Standard)

THE GLADSTONIAN ROWDYISM AT BADSEY

At the Evesham County Petty Sessions on Monday before Alderman Averill (chairman) and Messrs F C Holland, R F Tomes, J Ashwin and T Adkins, Walter William Blake (24), gardener, Badsey, was summoned by Charles Jones, gardener, recently of Badsey, for assaulting and beating him on July 4th.  A cross-summons charged Jones with assaulting Blake.  Mr G L Eades appeared for Jones, and Mr W Tree (Worcester) for Blake.

LIBERAL MEETING AT BADSEY
MR IMPEY DRAWN THROUGH THE VILLAGE – DISTURBERS EJECTED

Mr F Impey, after addressing a meeting at Bretforton on Monday evening, drove to Badsey.  On arriving at the top of the village, he was met by a number of persons, who then cheered him and took the horse from the conveyance and dragged the candidate in triumph to the bottom where the meeting was held.

POLITICS AND VIOLENCE AT BADSEY

William Walter Blake*, gardener, Badsey, was charged with assaulting Charles Jones, gardener, of the same place, on July 4.  Mr G L Eades prosecuted and Mr Warren Tree defended.  There was also a cross-summons.

Mr Eades, in his opening remarks, described the assault as murderous and asked for severe punishment.

Friday 3 November 1950 – Wedding of Sylvia Grace Bird at Badsey

BADSEY “WREN” MARRIED

St James’ Church, Badsey, was the scene of the wedding on Saturday between Wren Sylvia Grace Bird, youngest daughter of Mr & Mrs C J Bird, of The Stores, Bretforton Road, Badsey, and Petty Officer Peter William Craig, only son of Mr & Mrs W Craig of 56 Runnymede Avenue, Gillingham, Kent.

The bride, a native of Badsey, has served in the Wrens for past 18 months being a switchboard operator at the RN Air Station at Abbotsinch, Scotland.  Before joining the Service she was a popular Evesham Post Office telephonist.

Friday 23 June 1950 – Wedding of Peggy Diana Sears at Badsey

Badsey Bells Ring Wedding Peal

Local ringers chimed a merry wedding peal on the bells of St James’ Church, Badsey, on Tuesday, at the wedding of Miss Peggy Diana Sears, youngest daughter of Mrs B A Sears and the late Mr Sears of Plas Gwyn, Badsey, and Mr Arnold Lewis, only son of Mr & Mrs W A Lewis of Mitcham, Surrey.  The Rev W B Chapman, Vicar, officiated, and a feature of the service was the singing of the 23rd psalm by Mr Henry King, the accompanist being Mrs G Marshall.

The wedding took place on Saturday at St James’ Church, Badsey, of Miss Lina Maureen Syril, youngest daughter of Mrs O Syril and the late Mr G Syril of Netherleigh, Bretforton Road, Badsey, to Corporal William Thomas Toney, RASC, only son of Mr W Toney and the late Mrs W Toney of Hill View, Kent Moat Estate, Shendon, Birmingham.

Friday 31 March 1950 – Wedding of Edna May Salter at Badsey

BADSEY BRIDE – LITTLETON GROOM

At St James’ Church, Badsey, on Saturday, Miss Edna May Salter, second daughter of Mr & Mrs E A Salter, 35 Horsebridge Avenue, Badsey, was married to Mr Gordon Basil Jones, eldest son of Mr & Mrs Len Jones of No 4 Station Road, South Littleton.  The Vicar (Rev W B Chapman) officiated and the hymns “Lead us Heavenly Father, lead us” and “The Voice that breathed o’er Eden” were sung.  Mrs G W Marshall was the organist and rendered appropriate wedding music.
