WEDDING OF MR G M SLADDEN AND MISS FORD
The wedding of Mr George M Sladden, third son of Mr Julius Sladden of Seward House, Badsey, and Miss M Marjorie Ford, elder daughter of the Rev E R Ford, Rector of Brondesbury, and Mrs Ford, took place on Wednesday, in brilliant sunshine, at Christ Church, Brondesbury. The ceremony was performed by the Venerable the Archdeacon of London, assisted by the Rev B W Taylor, and was fully choral.
VE Day 2025 - the 80th anniversary
St James’ Church, Badsey, was a hive of activity on Bank Holiday Monday, 5th May, when upwards of 150 people and five dogs visited the church in the afternoon to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day on 8th May. The event was organised jointly by the Parochial Church Council and The Badsey Society, with funding gratefully received from Badsey and Aldington Parish Council. Free tea, coffee and biscuits were served throughout.

Melancholy Catastrophe
We mentioned in our last, the distressing accident which occasioned the death of Mrs Scardefield of Badsey, in this county, on the 26th ultimate. We lament to announce now, that her husband has fallen by his own hand; he put a period to his existence, but cutting his throat with a razor. The afflicting accident which deprived him of his wife, deeply affected his mind; and there is too much reason to fear that some infamous reports propagated by the tongue of slander reached his ear and added a pang to his already wounded spirit.

I decided to write this short article as a memorial to Brenda Carter, who I had known since I was a very young child, as her father had land next to my father’s land on Pitcher Hill. She was also well known by four generations of Wickhamford villagers.

SHARP sisters (19th century) - in the Wickhamford Census of 1841
When the 1841 Census was carried out, on 6th June, one household in Wickhamford consisted of only four young girls – the Sharp family. These girls were listed as Ann, aged 18, Charlotte, aged 15, Eliza, aged 10 and Harriet, aged 8. The occupation of all of them was given as ‘silk throwster’. They would have worked at the Silk Mill in Badsey.
