Biographical Details

Eleanor Mary Walton (1900-1985) was the great-niece of Eugénie Sladden, being the granddaughter of her sister, Mary Anna Robinson.

Eleanor was born at Pembridge House, Strawberry Hill, Twickenham, on 1st June 1900, the second of five children of Charles Henry and Fanny Walton.  She was baptized on 30th June 1900 at Holy Trinity Church, Twickenham.  She is mentioned in 11 letters written by her grandmother, Mary Anna (Polly) Robinson, to her sister, Eugénie.  There are several references to Eleanor’s musical ability; she was an accomplished cellist and singer.

Eleanor, like her sisters, remained single.  In the 1930s and during the Second World War, Eleanor and her sister, Myfanwy, ran a kindergarten which was in a room built over the garage at Pembridge House.

Eleanor died at Richmond on 9th August 1985.
